Hear from the YPU team

Nicky Pettitt, TCT Lead Nurse

Nicky Pettitt, Teenage Cancer Trust Lead Nurse, explains how the service for teenagers and young Adults with cancer has developed:

“The Teenager and Young Adult Service is more than being in a bed on YPU. It’s about supporting the young people, wherever they are in the hospital receiving treatment for cancer, recognising all their age appropriate needs, and trying to meet them. These patients come to us at a stage in their lives when everything is changing and developing.  This is massive enough, let alone with a cancer diagnosis on top. The Teenage and Young Adult Service is all about seeing the young person first, cancer patient second, and trying to make the hospital fit the young person, not the other way around.”
