Heartlands Hospital's Home away from Home

Thanks to our fabulous supporters, University Hospitals Birmingham Charity is now able to offer parents of babies in the Neonatal Unit at Heartlands Hospital a Home away from Home.

It can be a really traumatic time for parents whose babies are in need of urgent care because they are sick or born prematurely. Having a place to stay within two minutes of the  Neonatal ward takes the stress away and means they can be with their loved ones all hours of the day. It makes it easier for mum’s needing to breast feed and parents doing skin to skin, which is so important for baby’s development helping them get better quicker and bond with their mum and dad.

The house has all the comforts a family would need and allows siblings to stay as well keeping them together. It has all the mod cons like a Smart TV with beautiful top of the range, solid wood furniture. There’s a convenient open plan kitchen/dining area, a beautifully decorated bathroom and master bedroom as well as a second room which can convert from a spare room with a sofa bed into a games room – perfect for when siblings come to stay. There is also a garden for them to share and parking.

It means so much to the Charity and the University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust to be able to offer this to parents so they can focus on their baby and not have to worry about commuting from all parts of the country. If you want to help us support more parents going through such a worrying time please click on the DONATE button above.
