52 climbers brave Sunrise Snowdon for best sunrise yet

In the early hours of last Sunday 14th July 52 participants scaled Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain across England and Wales, to raise money for the hospital charity.

The climbers donated this money as a big thank you to all the wards that had saved the lives of friends and family, or had simply made a difference in their lives.

Escorted by Charity fundraisers, the group left Birmingham late Saturday night to arrive at the base of the mountain at 12:30 on Sunday morning. From there, they set off on their arduous journey in the dark, climbing 1000m above sea level to reach the summit.

Tired and hungry, exhausted yet exhilarated, they clambered over the summit just as the sun rose above the horizon. Turning round, they received their reward for the tough and challenging climb: the full extent of one of the most glorious sunrises they had ever seen.

The Events Assistant for the Charity, Roisin Mooney, who went with the group, said “It was the hardest thing I’d ever done, but it was literally breath taking and totally worth it.”

Holly Hancocks, one of the climbers for QEHB, said: “I cannot thank you enough for this weekend’s experience. It was absolutely unforgettable and I’m still on cloud 9. What a way to spend the weekend.”

So far, the event has raised an astounding £7,500, and that figure is still increasing. All money raised is going to designated wards across the QEHB, Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull hospitals, chosen by the fundraisers. This will help the Charity provide added extras such as lifesaving equipment and services which benefit the patients that the NHS is currently unable to fund.

Roisin also said: “There was a large team from across the Trust and they were all fantastic. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part, who supported us or donated to us.”

Others described the mammoth task as the biggest challenge of their life, but it left some of them more confident and inspired to take on similar challenges for the benefit of all those impacted by the Charity.
