Patient set to run Birmingham Half Marathon to support Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Burns Unit where he received phenomenal care

Laurence and his fiancée Caitlin are in the midst of training for their upcoming Half Marathon in May. The pair are raising funds for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Burns Unit, where Laurence was cared for following an accident that left him requiring urgent treatment.

Laurence was left with severe burns following an accident which involved a blender exploding on his face whilst making soup.

He was taken to the City Hospital, before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Burns Unit, where he received such wonderful treatment and thanks to their “amazing quick reactions and expertise I have made a full recovery” Laurence told us. He expressed his gratitude for the Burns Unit and for all the doctors and nurses who cared for him whilst he was there. The couple also were able to speak with a psychologist whom also offered excellent support.

Laurence has expressed how the “Burns Unit is a department very close to my heart, and even closer to my face! Were it not for their amazing work, I know the outcome could and likely would have been very different, following my accident.” Therefore Laurence and Caitlin decided to show their appreciation to the Unit by taking part in the Birmingham Half Marathon in May.

Laurence had previously enjoyed running as a hobby with him aiming for an incredible sub-90 time; whereas this is a brand new challenge for Caitlin, but one she has absolutely thrown herself into.

The amount raised will be going to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Burns’ Unit that provided Laurence with such excellent care, which will benefit both the staff and patients on that Unit.

If you would like to show your support for Laurence and Caitlin’s incredible Half Marathon challenge and donate to the Burns Unit, you can do so here.
