Colleagues take on 5km walk in support of critical care staff

Caitriona Martin-O'Mullane and Sophie Ebanks, both Operational Managers who supported critical care units during the Covid-19 pandemic, have kindly chosen to fundraise for Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) staff as a thank you for all their hard work the past few months.

Caitriona and Sophie completed a long distance walk around Cannon Hill Park at the end of August. However, this was no ordinary sponsored walk! They completed this challenge in full hospital style clothing, that they sourced themselves, in a show of solidarity with their colleagues.

Caitriona said they were inspired to fundraise as they saw how staff were “giving 110% in a hugely challenging environment and how this was affecting staff emotionally and physically.” Caitriona said her and Sophie “are incredibly proud to work for the NHS having watched it pull together in this surreal time. We just wanted to say a small, but enormously heartfelt, thank you.”

Mike Hammond, CEO of UHB Charity, said: “University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust was one of the hardest hit by Covid-19 across the country, we are thrilled Caitriona and Sophie are fundraising for us so we can continue to give back to our incredible NHS superheroes!”

We are pleased to report Caitriona and Sophie have smashed their initial target and have raised an amazing £909.16! The money they have raised will help us to continue supporting our incredible NHS Superheroes across our hospitals during what continues to be a difficult time.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, UHB Charity has been proud to use your generous donations to support our staff through the new wellbeing hubs that have been set up across the hospital sites. We have also been able to fund mindfulness sessions for staff. Your donations will now be able to help us fund new staff wellbeing officers to work across our sites, giving specialised support to our staff members.
