Cyclists take on 100 mile ride for Organ Donation Week

A committed team of cyclists pedalled their way from Salford to Birmingham yesterday to mark Organ Donation Week. The team of cyclists from Salford Royal NHS decided to do something special by riding between the two hospitals, inspired by the journey that donated organs take.

The 100 mile journey took the committed team down the country, through the Peak District, arriving in Birmingham in the early evening. They were met at the hospital by representatives from the organ transplant teams from across the hospital.

Throughout their ride the team carried with them inflatable organs which they then presented to the staff members at the hospital, symbolising the life-saving organs that are transported between the two hospitals.

UHB Charity is proud to support the incredible work of the organ transplantation teams across the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and thanks to your generosity we have been able to fund a range of life-saving equipment that has changed the way that organ transplantations are carried out at the hospital.

Your donations have changed the way that liver transplantations are carried out thanks to the OrganOx machine, and the Charity’s Heart in a Box appeal has saved the lives of heart transplant patients.

Your donations will help us to do more for our transplant patients in the future.
