Daughter climbs Snowdon in memory of Dad

David Nichols was diagnosed with a primary liver cancer and sadly passed away just over a week before Christmas in 2019. His daughter, Sara-Anne, is now taking on the incredible challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon through the night to thank the staff and the hospital for his care before he passed away.

David was a regular patient at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham after he was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common form of liver cancer, over four years ago and was cared for on the liver and cancer wards in the hospital.

Talking about why she is taking part in this challenge, Sara-Anne said: “My motivation for this event is my father, David. He was a palliative care patient under the expert care of the consultants, oncologists, doctors and the liver wards 726 and 727.

“It is with this in mind that I would like to raise as much money for the wards, the patients and staff on these specialised wards. The liver wards have been exceptional and the nursing staff looked after him really well and staff were supportive.

“I have walked Snowdon before but the sunrise element is something that I have never done before, I am very excited for the challenge!”

So far, Sara-Anne has raised an incredible £270 since signing up for the challenge which is taking place in May! Places cost £55 with a minimum sponsorship of £175 which includes return coach travel from Birmingham city centre, snacks, water and professional guides to help you on your challenge!

The Liver Foundation UK within QEHB Charity supports all of the liver patients throughout the hospital by providing added extras that go ‘over and above’ what the NHS can fund.

Thanks to incredily kind donations, just like those from Sara-Anne, we have been able to fund a number of pieces equipment, along with trials, and even a member of staff for the liver team. Without your fundraising efforts and donations we wouldn’t be able to provide these added extras.
