Doctors get muddy for Heartlands

Doctors from Heartlands and Solihull teamed together this year as part of one of their Mess activities and took part in a Tough Mudder 5K for Heartlands Hospital Charity.

The team, some of whom will be leaving the hospitals at the end of the year, decided that they wanted to take on something a bit more challenging outside of the workplace and raise money for a worthy cause at the same time.

Na’im Merchant, Vice President of the Doctor’s Mess, said: “We picked Heartlands Hospital Charity because they do great work. We’ve been promoting them on our social media in the run up to the event with all of the things that they do.

“We chose to do the Tough Mudder 5K because it was a challenge but also achievable, most of us were either on call the day before or the day after the challenge so everyone was struggling but we all had a really good time.”

The team raised an incredible £1,153.65 by completing the challenge and hope that the doctors who are in the team in the future will continue doing a challenge like this annually to raise money for the hospital charity.

Lee Ann Quek, one of the doctors that took part in the challenge, said: “It was exceptionally good fun, you could see why you needed to have a good team to work together and it was really great to work with a good team and it was such a good bonding exercise.”

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer for Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “A huge well done to all of the doctors that took part in the Tough Mudder challenge!

“All of the money raised will help the hospital charity purchase even more added extras for patients, staff and families across the hospital that goes over and above what the NHS can fund.”
