Drayton has donated a number of its smart heating control system, Wiser, to  University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Charity, giving the charity remote control of the heating within the off-site accommodation that it provides to families and patients being treated at the hospitals, helping to significantly reduce monthly energy usage.

The Home away from Home appeal offers nearby accommodation to families and patients who travel from afar to undergo hospital treatment. Now with the help of Wiser, the UHB team no longer need to physically visit the premises to make heating adjustments and they simply control the heating system remotely via the Wiser Heat app as and when required, saving both time and money on energy bills.

The new Wiser systems installed allows UHBC Charity to reap the cost saving benefits of innovative smart modes, such as Away Mode. This can be activated when families leave the property to maintain a lower ambient temperature, not only helping to reduce energy usage when not required, but also helps ensure the integrity of the accommodation is sustained even when it isn’t occupied, which is particularly important during the winter months. In addition, the heating system can also be simply turned on or off remotely at the push of a button, ensuring the property is warm and comfortable when families arrive even at short notice.

The initial phase will see three Wiser systems installed in three properties located just a short walk away from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Further Wiser installations will be rolled out across UHBC property portfolio later in the year.
