Drayton Park Golf Club donates £2,000

Nick Geary was treated at Good Hope Hospital after falling ill when he was in America and has now raised money with his golf club to say thank you to the surgeons and staff that saved his life.

Nick was the 2019 male captain at Drayton Park Golf Club and chose Good Hope Hospital Charity as his charity to raise money for during the year.

After being flown back from Florida in 2017, Nick was diagnosed with a blood infection in his leg and needed urgent surgery to have it removed before it spread any further. Thanks to the surgeons at Good Hope, the infection was removed and he spent 10 days in isolation before being able to go home.

Nick said: “The staff on Ward 14 were fantastic and Mr Dunbar, my surgeon, was great. The ward looked after me really well before I could go home. This donation is just a small thank you for their hard work and what they’ve done for me.”

To raise the money, Nick and the female captain at the Golf Club put on various events throughout the year to raise money for their chosen charities. Events included a Texas Scramble, quiz nights, parties, and so much more with members and their friends and family all getting involved to raise money.

Altogether, the team raised an incredible £6,000 which has been split between their chosen charities of Ward 14 Good Hope Hospital Charity, Prostate Cancer UK and Worldwide Cancer.

Catherine Hough, a nurse on Ward 14 at Good Hope Hospital, said: “We on Ward 14 would like to say a massive thank you to Nick for the donation. It means a lot to us and we are so grateful for the donation.

“We all work so hard and when someone takes the time to fundraise for us it makes it all worthwhile. Thank you again for your incredibly kind donation.”
