Family take to the skies to raise money for Intensive Care at Heartlands

Rebecca Froggatt was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at Heartlands Hospital in June 2017 where she was put on life support after becoming very ill, and her husband and brother-in-law wanted to thank the hospital and staff for saving her life.

Rebecca was originally treated for double pneumonia and sepsis when she was first admitted and put on life support, and her family were told to prepare for the worst as her condition was not good.

To say thank you to the staff at Heartlands Hospital, Rebecca’s husband, Chris, and her brother-in-law Danny, did a tandem skydive on September 9 where they flew out of a plane at 13,000ft to raise money for Heartlands Hospital Charity.

Rebecca said: “With the wonderful round the clock care and treatment provided by the staff on the ITU ward at Heartlands Hospital, I am still here! So we would like to give something back to the people who worked so tirelessly to save me.”

Chris and Danny raised a huge £2,703.97 by doing their skydives for the ITU ward which will go towards ‘added extras’ for patients, staff and families on the ward.

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Well done to both Chris and Danny for doing a tandem skydive each and raising so much money for the Intensive Care Unit here at Heartlands.

“The staff on the ward work tirelessly every single day to help save lives just like Rebecca’s, so the money raised will help the Charity fund ‘added extras’ that go over and above for the patients, staff and families on the ward.”
