Fundraiser takes to the ring to raise money for Stroke Unit

Fundraiser Ben Walker, with the help of storage and haulage company Jet Express, has raised a fantastic £1,000 to support the Stroke Unit at Heartlands Hospital.

Ben was inspired to raise money for Heartlands Hospital Charity after his girlfriend's dad, Richard, had a stroke whilst working near the Aston Expressway. Ben took to the ring to raise money, taking part in a White Collar Boxing Event in West Bromwich, raising £500. Ben works for Jet Express, who kindly decided to match-fund Ben's efforts, taking the total to £1,000.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity said: "The Charity's thanks go to Ben and the team from Jet Express for their kind donations. The money that has been raised will help the Charity to create a family room on the Stroke Unit that will provide relatives with a space to sit in when they arrive at the hospital.

"The room will allow families to have some quiet time, away from the busy ward, and will allow them to talk to consultants in a comfortable and confidential area. It would not be possible for the Charity to fund this project if it weren't for amazing fundraisers like Ben."

Ben won his boxing match, and said: "It was great to be able to raise money for the Stroke Unit at Heartlands Hospital after they cared so well for Richard following his stroke. I really enjoyed the boxing event and would like to thank everyone who donated, especially Jet Express for their donation."
