Funds raised for Oesophageal Cancer awareness month

February is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month, and to mark this the Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer Patient Support Group, along with staff from the Clinical Nurse Specialist team, have been busy attending stands in the atrium at QEHB.

The stands have helped to raise awareness of the condition, and to raise money for the hospital charity, raising a fantastic £366!

The support group exists to support patients with oesophageal or gastrointestinal cancer, and their families and carers, and the money that they have raised throughout February will help them to continue to support patients throughout their cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager at QEHB Charity, said: “The diagnosis of any type of cancer can be extremely traumatic, and few people come prepared for how diagnosis and treatment will make them feel. The physical and psychological challenges that may follow chemotherapy, radiotherapy and radical surgery, can leave patients and their carers feeling isolated.

“The work that the support group is so valuable in helping our patients come to terms with their diagnosis, and provides a space for them to talk to those who have been through similar experiences. Our thanks go to the team for their excellent fundraising efforts throughout February!”
