Group sews cosy quilts to comfort children with cancer

A group of nimble-fingered stitchers recently donated homemade patchwork quilts to QEHB Charity, to help support children at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham through their cancer treatment.

Project Linus UK is an organisation that sews and donates quilts to children in hospitals, supporting them through their treatment by providing comfort and reassurance.

Joy Edgington, group organiser for the West Midlands region, kindly donated a batch of quilts to QEHB Charity’s VIP Treatment appeal.

The appeal supports children from across the UK who come to the QE for their radiotherapy treatment, which takes place every day for 30 days, excluding weekends.

At the start of their radiotherapy each child chooses a quilt to keep with them every time they are treated. They then take the quilt and a special toy home with them when their radiotherapy is complete.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “We are really grateful to Joy and everyone at Project Linus UK for taking the time to create and donate quilts for our poorly children.

“Receiving treatment for cancer is difficult for anyone, let alone a young child. The security and comfort that a cosy quilt can bring will really help bring reassurance to the many children who come through the hospital’s doors every year.”
