Incredible fundraiser completes world-first

Gavin Sandford, a 43-year old former soldier now working as a theatre practitioner has completed an astounding world-first for charity, by taking on the toughest race in the world twice.

The Marathon des Sables requires incredible strength and endurance: the equivalent of five and a half marathons undertaken in as many days, across the dangerous plains of the Sahara desert, with highs of 55 degrees Celsius.

To complete one Marathon des Sables is an incredible accomplishment; however, Gavin went one step further, and completed the race twice over twelve days, covering a distance of 500 kilometres.

This world-first has been in aid of QEHB Charity, Blesma, and the Team Margot Foundation.

Mike Hammond, Chief Executive at QEHB Charity, said: “Gavin is incredible, and we are delighted that he has managed to complete this fabulous feat. His motivation is palpable and indicative of his passion for these worthy causes. On behalf of QEHB Charity, I want to thank Gavin for all of his hard work.”
