Julie visits Ward 19 to present donation

Julie Barnfield is a patient on Ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital. Ward 19 is the specialist cancer ward at the hospital, and treats thousands of patients from across the region each year.

Julie has terminal cancer and wanted to support the ward where she is being treated. She held a big party at Langley Hall Social Club and invited all of her friends and family along. The club decided to donate the profits from the evening, an incredible £800, to the charity of Julie's choice. Julie recently made the trip to Heartlands to present the cheque to the staff on the ward.

Julie said: “When I was diagnosed in November, my husband and children felt like our world had crumbled. I’m so grateful to the hospital for what they have done, they have given me hope and helped to prolong my life.

“I know that the money will help the ward, and I hope that my story can give hope to other patients just like me.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to Val Schauker, Rod McLean and the committee at Langley Hall Social Club for donating all of the profits from the evening to the Charity. Val (pictured on the left of the photo above) is one of my best friends and has been with me all the way on my journey."

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Our thanks go to Julie and the Langley Hall Social Club for this donation. I know that her story will help to give hope to other patients just like her.

“Thanks to the generosity of people just like Julie, we are able to provide ‘added extras’ for patients on the ward, funding state-of-the-art equipment, as well as patient comforts to improve the experience of being on the ward.”
