Life and Birth documentary series begins on BBC One

A new documentary series is beginning on BBC One this evening at 8pm which focuses on the extraordinary care that is offered across Heartlands Hospital and Good Hope Hospital’s maternity units.

The ‘Life and Birth’ series has been produced by Dragonfly, and it reveals what it really takes to deliver Britain’s next generation, through the eyes of parents and staff working in maternity services across Birmingham.

The filming took place at Heartlands and Good Hope, as well as the Birmingham Women’s Hospital, in autumn 2019 and shows the incredible journey that expectant parents take and offers an incredible insight into the places where cutting-edge medicine meets the miracle of birth every single day.

Life and Birth shows parents at every stage of their pregnancy, showing maternity care in a way that it has no been seen before and captures the incredible work of NHS midwives, doctors and surgeons, who are dedicated to supporting families as they bring new life into the world.

University Hospitals Birmingham Charity is incredibly proud to support the work of the Good Hope and Heartlands maternity services, and thanks to the generous donations that we receive we have helped to provide the best care possible for our newborns in need.

Charlotte Schofield, Director of Fundraising at University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, said: “We are all excited for the Life and Birth series to air, showcasing the incredible work of our NHS heroes across Heartlands and Good Hope.

“Thanks to our supporters we have been able to fund a range of equipment and facilities for the maternity units at both hospitals. Last year we brought seven new incubators to the hospitals, helping to provide the best care possible for babies who are born prematurely and need expert care in those crucial first months of life.

“We are also fundraising to bring a Midwifery Led Unit to Good Hope Hospital, which will offer mums a different choice in how they want to give birth. With your support we will be able to create a beautiful and relaxing environment for mums to give birth in, providing a home from home experience within the safe surroundings of a hospital.”
