Liz Barker fundraises £1,585 for The Giles' Trust

Liz Barker, has fundraised a spectacular £1,585 for QEHB Charity by running in the Richmond Half Marathon to say thank you for the fantastic care her mother received at QEHB.

Last year Liz received the terrible news that her mother had a brain tumour, the entire family were devastated. Thankfully the tumour was benign and now six months on after a series of treatments she is recovering remarkably well! During her stay at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Liz’s mother showed extraordinary strength and courage, but above all else, gratitude to the staff.

Liz said: “The strength my mom has whilst going through this process has inspired me to push myself out of my comfort zone and raise money for vital research into brain tumours and to find more treatments for a subject that is so remarkably unfunded”

Liz decided to donate the proceeds to The Giles' Trust charity, which is part of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity. The Giles’ Trust was set up by England cricketer Ashley Giles and his wife Stine, to raise money to fund vital research into brain tumours at QEHB. Stine herself had been diagnosed with three brain tumours and was one of the first people in the UK to be treated on the TomoTherapy machine bought by QEHB Charity.

Liz completed the Richmond Half Marathon in an impressive two hours three minutes despite confessing “Anyone who knows me knows I am certainly not a runner”

Cathryn Worth, Fundraising Manager at QEHB Charity said: “It is so lovely to hear that Liz’s mother received such wonderful care whilst she was treated at QEHB. We are so grateful that Liz has chosen to fundraise for the Charity, with this donation we can continue to provide patients with a high quality of care. Thank you Liz!”
