Local pupils raise money for Ward 19 at Heartlands

The pupils at Bordesley Green Girls’ School have been busy fundraising for Heartlands Hospital Charity, through their involvement in the Diana Awards mentor scheme.

The pupils, from across all the year groups including the sixth form, organised two bake sales within the school and raised a fantastic £222.74 to support Ward 19, the specialist cancer ward at the hospital.

The Diana Awards mentor sees volunteer mentors work with young people who need a role model in their lives and through a series of group sessions, the mentees gain an insight into the world of work and career skills training.

Facilitaor Latoya, alongside the mentors, Kim from RSM, and Nicki, Rachel and Toni from Ricoh, encouraged the pupils to pick a local cause to support through their fundraising, and the pupils chose to support Heartlands Hospital Charity. Latoya said: “The bake sales were great and were supported by the teacher and the entire school. The girls were all so supportive of each other.”

Sabrina Hussaine, Fundraising Officer at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said: “Huge thanks goes to the pupils at Bordesley Green Girls’ School for their hard work in fundraising for Ward 19. The money that they have raised will help us to provide the very best care to cancer patients at Heartlands Hospital.”
