M6 toll supports patients and military personnel

Midlands Expressway Limited (MEL) has chosen three charities to benefit from its M6 Drive for Charity event, of which QEHB Charity is one.

A fundraising event will take place on Friday 7th August, when MEL will be donating £10,000 from the day’s toll revenues to QEHB Charity and Fisher House, a ‘home away from home’ for military patients and their families.

MEL will host the Drive for Charity fundraising event and fun day, which is open to the public, at the M6 Toll Motorway Service Area (MSA) at Norton Canes from 11am to 3pm.

Visitors will be able to enjoy stalls and displays to find out more about the work of QEHB Charity and Fisher House, as well as Violets in Bloom, Staffordshire Search and Rescue Team, Midlands Air Ambulance and Emergency services. There will also be lots of activities to keep the children entertained and plenty of opportunities to allow customers to donate and boost the Drive for Charities proceeds further.

Senior Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, Laura Power, said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as one of M6 Toll’s three charities and are delighted to welcome them to the QEHB Charity team.

“The support from MEL will be invaluable to the charity and the thousands of patients, staff and families we support. The money raised will be used to fund added extras, like a teacher for teenagers with cancer and slippers for elderly patients, as well as cutting edge equipment and vital medical research.

“Funds generously donated by M6 Toll will also help provide free accommodation to families of ill or injured military troops at Fisher House, a ‘home away from home’ on site of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“We look forward to working closely with everyone at M6 Toll for the next 12 months and thank them again for their invaluable support of QEHB Charity.”
