Members of Social Club raise funds in memory of dear friend

Wendy Lovell, Stewardess of Sheldon Heath Social Club, organised and took part in several fundraising events in August of 2015. The events were to raise funds for QEHB Charity’s Cancer and Cardiology Unit Funds.

The 61-year-old and friends decided to raise money in memory of their friend and work colleague Phil Robinson, who tragically died of a heart attack five weeks into his Radiotherapy for throat cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Wendy and eight others walked from the QEHB Cancer Unit to Sheldon Heath Social Club – a huge distance of 7.7 miles – then followed this with a Race Night at the Social Club. They concluded their fundraising with a Family Fun Day on August Bank Holiday Monday, consisting of raffles, bouncy castles, a barbeque, disco, and auction.

From these events, the group raised an incredible £3,000. They have split the money raised equally between the two funds.

Wendy said: “We hope that the money will, in some way, help with the recovery of other Cancer patients.

I took Phil to one of his Radiotherapy sessions and thought that the staff were really friendly and caring. They really did make a harrowing time more relaxing and positive.”

Laura Power, Senior Fundraiser at QEHB Charity, said: “So much effort was put into this fundraising event, with fantastic results. The brilliant amount raised will make a huge difference. On behalf of the charity, I want to thank Wendy, her friends, and Sheldon Heath Social Club.”
