Michelle conquers Everest for UHB Charity

Michelle James, from Moseley, has taken on University Hospitals Birmingham Charity’s Steps Challenge and has climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest using the stairs in her home!

Michelle was inspired to take on a fundraising challenge for UHB Charity as a way of giving something back to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and decided to take on the Steps Challenge.

The Steps Challenge was launched by UHB Charity earlier in the year, encouraging participants to climb a famous mountain, either on their own or as a team, using the steps in their house. Michelle wanted to take on the ultimate challenge and decided to climb the 58,040 steps that would be the equivalent height of Mount Everest!

She said: “It’s been tough but I’m glad I took it on! I have got 31 steps in my house over two floors so I’ve been going up and down them to reach the target. I thought I might have to replace my stair carpet at one point though!”

Michelle has raised £535 which will help UHB Charity to support its staff and patients across the hospitals. Michelle said: “I wanted to do something to give back to the hospitals; my brothers-in-law were both treated at QEHB before they sadly passed away. I know that the money that I’ve raised will help UHB Charity to do more to support the amazing staff who provide such a high level of care to all their patients.”

Charlotte Schofield, Director of Fundraising at UHB Charity, said: “Thank you Michelle for taking on such an epic challenge to raise funds to support our patients and staff. We have been able to do so much over recent months thanks to the commitment of our generous fundraisers. Over the coming months we will continue to support our patients and staff at what continues to be a difficult time.”
