Moor Hall raise money for cancer patients

Golfers at Moor Hall Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield hold an annual fundraiser to raise money for their chosen charities of the year and thanks to the incredible care of the Oncology Unit at Good Hope Hospital, the FROGGS team chose to support them!

The FROGGS (Friday Retired Old Gits Golf Society) chose to support the Oncology Unit at Good Hope Hospital in 2019 thanks to the incredible care they have given to some of the team members’ wives, and more recently, some of the members.

John Phythian, a member of FROGGS, said: “It was a very successful day, 60 of us played and a further 10 non-playing members attended the fundraising evening dinner and auction.

“The Oncology Unit at Good Hope Hospital has provided wonderful treatment and support to Bob Spencer’s, Chief FROGG, wife Pauline, my wife Ann and other members in recent times so it was very appropriate for us to support such a worthy cause and in appreciation of the excellent nursing and specialist care received from the Oncology Team.”

Moor Hall Golf Club hold an annual golf day and fundraising event each year which includes a dinner and auction, which included toys generously donated by Golden Bear Products, to help raise money for their chosen charities.

They raised an incredible £1,200 from the auction which has been split between Good Hope Hospital Charity and the Captain’s nominated charity, Mind.

John’s wife, Ann, was being treated at the unit when the hospital charity was refurbishing one of the treatment rooms in the unit and Pauline was treated in the newly refurbished room which is where they originally heard about the Charity. The refurbished treatment room is more comfortable and has ten more chemotherapy chairs, which has been allowing patients to start their treatment earlier.

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager at Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “A huge thank you goes to John and the FROGGS team for their incredible donation to the Oncology Unit at the hospital.

“The team on the unit have lots of exciting ideas and projects and donations like these will help us to go ‘over and above’ what the NHS can fund for our patients.”
