Mother and daughter knit for premature babies

Jean Lawley and Diane Maw have been knitting tiny pieces of clothing for premature babies at Good Hope Hospital for over three years.

The mother and daughter team knit cardigans, hats, gloves and jumpers for the tiny babies that are being treated at the hospital, and all of the money they raise goes straight back into the Special Care Baby Unit.

Talking about their work for the hospital charity, Jean said: “We absolutely love knitting for the babies. People are always visiting their newborns in the hospital and they love to see clothes that will fit their tiny premature babies as it’s not always easy finding such small clothes.

“We love raising money for the unit and we are so glad we can do something to help the babies that are on the unit.”

Since they have been selling their knitted goods, they have raised over £300 for the unit that cares for premature babies that are born at the hospital.

Elle Huguet, Fundraising Assistant for Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “Jean and Diane have been knitting precious little pieces of clothing for the babies who are treated at the hospital for a long time now and have raised an incredible amount of money for the unit where the babies are treated.

“The money they raise from selling their knitted items goes straight to the Special Care Baby Unit which allows them to purchase added extras that go ‘over and above’ what the NHS can fund.”
