Mother of newborn triplets says thank you to Ola for free rides to hospital

Maryam Azam from Yardley, Birmingham, has recently welcomed triplets into the world, giving birth at Heartlands Hospital. The triplets, Mehrun-Nisa Shazad, Zaibun-Nisa Shazad and Khairun-Nisa Shazad born during the COVID-19 lockdown and were moved to Good Hope Hospital where they are receiving expert care on the Special Care Baby Unit.

The babies were born at on 24 March at just 27 weeks, three months before their due date, and each of them weighed between 1.6 pounds and 1.7 pounds.

When Ola found out about the triplets, they offered Maryam free lifts from her home to Good Hope Hospital, so that she could see her babies and spend time with them whilst they were being cared for.

Maryam said: “I do not drive, so without the kind support that I have received from Ola I wouldn’t have been able to go to Good Hope Hospital to visit my babies. Thank you Ola!”

Marc Rozendal, Interim Managing Director for Ola UK, said “A huge congratulations to Maryam and all three new arrivals! We’re delighted to have helped the family when they needed it, and to have been able to support the NHS at this critical time, both in this case and through Ola’s discount scheme for NHS workers. It is now more vital than ever to make sure that communities can travel safely, and Ola will continue to play its part and keep the UK moving.”

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager at Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “Our thanks go to Ola for this generous show of support for Maryam. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic we have been humbled by the incredible support that we have seen for our patients and staff. This is a wonderful example of how an act of kindness can make a huge difference to someone.

“On behalf of everyone at Good Hope and Heartlands Hospitals I would like to wish Maryam, Waseem and their beautiful triplets all the happiness in the world.”
