A fundraising adventure in the Outer Hebrides

Jessica is embarking on a fundraising adventure to remember. Along with her Dad and Uncle, they are cycling an incredible almost 200 miles across the Outer Hebrides, all in the name of Charity. Jessica is raising money for Heartlands Hospital, which provided such excellent care to her son Zachary when he fell poorly at just four days old.

Jessica told us, “The birth of Zachary was fine; we were home within 24 hours. Unfortunately though when he was just four days old he picked up an infection. He deteriorated and it got to the point that we needed to call an ambulance. We were rushed to Heartlands hospital, straight to the A&E department before being admitted onto the children’s wards. Luckily he recovered well, and within two days we were discharged.

“It is obviously very frightening when you’ve just had a new-born and they are rushed into hospital. However, the care we got throughout the whole process was really great and everyone did everything they could to make us feel looked after and cared for; their support made an awful situation slightly easier. Being new parents it was of course terrifying, but luckily Zachary made a good recovery.”

For the care they provided to her son Zachary, Jessica “started thinking that I’d like to do something to raise money for the hospital to give something back for the amazing treatment.”

Jessica, her Dad and Uncle were originally going to take on the Outer Hebrides before the COVID-19 pandemic, however it had to be rearranged a couple of times, and now they are embarking on this adventure almost exactly a year ago to when Zachary was born. This will see them cycle almost 200 miles over the course of three days. Zachary, along with Jessica’s partner, Mum and Aunt are also making the trip to show their support and cheer them on. Although Jessica is no stranger to cycling, she also wanted to do it for Charity as well, which “will give me a reason to keep going” when cycling that great distance.

If you would like to cheer on Jessica and her family’s Outer Hebrides cycle ride and support Heartlands hospital, then you can do so here.
