Sikh Arts and Cultural Association race to a fundraising record

The Sikh Arts and Cultural Association (SACA) organised several large fundraising events back in July of this year, raising money for QEHB Charity’s VIP Appeal. This appeal is raising money to refurbish the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s Radiotherapy Unit in order to make it more child-friendly for our younger patients.

On the morning of Saturday, July 18th, 260 cyclists set off from the QE and cycled the equivalent of five marathons (130 miles) to arrive in London just 36 hours later.

This epic journey was followed by a parade and fun day.

SACA’s fundraising goal was £30,000.

They zoomed past this target, raising a colossal £71,173.26 for QEHB Charity’s VIP Appeal. This is more than double SACA’s previous fundraising record.

On Saturday 24th October, Head of Fundraising Justine Davy and Senior Fundraiser Laura Power of QEHB Charity went to London for the final cheque presentation and awards ceremony. The afternoon was attended by SACA organiser’s, fundraisers and riders and recognised all of the hard work put into making the ride a massive success over the past 12 months.

Laura Power, Senior Fundraiser at QEHB Charity, said: “What an amazing conclusion to what has been an amazing fundraising experience to be a part of. SACA put so much effort into helping children with cancer have as comfortable an experience as possible when coming to the QE for treatment; on behalf of QEHB Charity, I want to give them my warmest thanks.”
