Sweet treats mark international Volunteer Recognition Day

To mark this year’s international Volunteer Recognition Day, QEHB Charity hosted an afternoon of tea, cake and celebrations as we thanked our fantastic volunteers for their kind-hearted ongoing support of the Charity.

This year’s event was also dubbed the ‘Great Volunteer Bake Off’, as volunteers and QEHB Charity staff members were invited to bake cakes, biscuits and other sweet treats, which were taste-tested by our very own Communications Intern, Orlagh Davies.

The afternoon, which took place at the Postgrad Centre on Tuesday 19 April, was enjoyed by over 15 volunteers, as well as QEHB Charity team members.

Certificates were awarded to every volunteer to mark their dedication, as well as a Love QEHB mug which was gifted to all 15 volunteers. Special thanks was also given to many of the volunteers, including Roger Raybould, who was thanked for keeping the Charity newsletter stands topped up, and for helping out at the QEHB Charity atrium stands and events, Aprella Fitch, Julie Liddle and Geoff Staley, who were thanked for the fantastic upkeep of the Fisher House garden, Les and June Woodhall who were recognised for their wonderful support group and atrium stand, dedicated to raising money for Upper GI patients at the hospital, and Jenny Buchan who was thanked for her support with office tasks.

QEHB Charity Senior Fundraiser, Cathryn Worth, was also awarded first place in the bake-off, for her delicious lemon drizzle cake!

Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “We had a wonderful time celebrating our fantastic volunteers, and the cakes were delicious too! Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to attend as many events as we do or hold weekly atrium stands in the hospital. Their support really is invaluable so we were delighted to be able to say a big ‘thank you’ in this way!”

QEHB Charity will also hold a special atrium stand today (20 April) from 10am – 3pm, to mark Volunteer Recognition Day. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the QEHB Charity team as a volunteer, please email charityvolunteer@uhb.nhs.uk or call Sian Averill on 0121 371 4852.
