On Wednesday 27 July, representatives from TSB Sheldon visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) to deliver a cheque for £1,883.22 to QEHB Charity, bringing their fundraising total up to more than £5,800 for the Charity’s Elderly Care Appeal.

Tara Tustin and Cas Phull, from the Sheldon branch of national bank TSB, met Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, to present her with the final cheque since the branch began supporting QEHB Charity in May 2015 as part of a nation-wide Local Charity Partnership programme.

Tara, Cas and Sian also visited Ward 518 to deliver a new interactive My Life Software unit, one of a total of four which have now been funded by the partnership, and which are being provided to wards throughout the hospital as part of QEHB Charity’s Elderly Care Appeal. The appeal is seeking to help to provide comfort and support for patients with dementia, wherever in the hospital they may be receiving treatment. The units consist of special touchscreen monitors which patients can use to play games, view popular video clips from days gone by, and create personal interactive ‘life stories’, using the individual’s own photos, with the help of staff and families. The units also include a ‘hear me’ function to help patients who may struggle with verbal communication to speak to staff.

Ward staff Julie Russell and Yvonne Dimbylow were on hand to receive the unit and thank Tara and Cas, before taking the new equipment straight out onto the ward!

Sian said: “The partnership between TSB Sheldon and QEHB Charity has been wonderful, and the extra support our elderly patients are now going to receive through the provision of these new units will be invaluable. They will help patients with dementia to communicate with hospital staff and visiting family members, as well as providing a bit of welcome recreation. I want to thank everyone at TSB Sheldon who have donated and fundraised for this appeal to enable us to give four wards their own dedicated My Life unit.”

Gareth Allen, Bank Manager at TSB Sheldon, said: “Our Local Charity Partnership programme is all about working in partnership to help support the local causes that are the lifeblood of many communities across Britain.

“It’s been fantastic to support QEHB Charity which is close to our hearts here in Birmingham and everyone working here has found our partnership really rewarding.”
