Great Birmingham Run Fundraisers Raise An Incredible £18,000

We would like to say a huge thank you to our fantastic fundraisers who took part in the Great Birmingham Run on Sunday 7th May. Between our 51 runners they have managed to raise an incredible £18,000 for UHB Charity! Their support and fundraising means so much and we are so grateful for all of their efforts.

A big thank you to the team at RNA Automation for taking on the 10k run for UHB Charity! RNA Automation are supporting the Charity throughout the year and not only did they challenge themselves to the Great Birmingham Run, they will also be taking on a Snowdon trek in July! Hannah has raised an amazing £2,721 for the Haematology and Oncology Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham to say thank you to the amazing team who have taken such great care of her dad. Last May Hannah’s dad was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, a rare cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It has hit Hannah and her family extremely hard as this is the second time her dad has been diagnosed with cancer. In 2009 Hannah’s dad ran the London Marathon in aid of Prostate Cancer Research UK following his diagnosis and recovery from prostate cancer. This time it was Hannah’s turn to put on her running shoes and she took on the half marathon – well done Hannah! If you would like to donate here is her gofundme page: gofund.me/b2ac32a1

Our team of radiography runners from Good Hope Hospital, Becky, Rochella, Katie, and Sophie, challenged themselves to the Great Birmingham Run to raise money for the much loved and valued Radiology Department. The team took on the run to make a difference to their patients and their goal was to raise enough money to fund new equipment to improve patient care and treatment. UHB Charity has pledged to boost their fundraising through the Match Funding scheme and the Charity will be giving an extra £2 for every £1 raised. If you would like to support them here is their JustGiving page: justgiving.com/team/radiographyrunners

We were thrilled to see our incredible Spiderman, Daniel running the half marathon. Having taken part in the London Marathon last month, Daniel has been running a marathon or half marathon every weekend since the beginning of 2023 dressed as Spiderman! Daniel is raising money for Heartland’s Neonatal Unit to give something back and say thank you to the “amazing, wonderful angels who work there”.

Daniel’s son, Marshall, was born at just 600 grams and doctors didn’t think he would make it beyond 24 hours, but thanks to the amazing support at Heartland’s Neonatal Unit, he did. Sadly at 4 months old Marshall got an NEC infection and passed away. Daniel and his family will never forget the incredible care and support they received at Heartland’s Hospital and he is hoping to raise £10,000. You can read more about Daniel's story and support his fundraising through his JustGiving page: justgiving.com/fundraising/danielrusby

This is just a small selection of the incredible individuals and teams who took part in the Great Birmingham Run for UHB Charity. Congratulations and thank you to all of our fabulous fundraisers! It is a privilege to hear your personal stories and the reasons you choose to support UHB Charity, and we love being part of your fundraising journey!
