Fabulous Fundraisers Take On The London Marathon

To take on a marathon is serious dedication, and we cannot thank the wonderful fundraisers taking on the London Marathon on Sunday, April 23, enough for their huge efforts.

Please show some of our fabulous fundraisers your support by donating on their Just Giving pages below or hitting the DONATE button at the top of the screen to help UHB Charity make a big difference in our patients lives.

Daniel isn't just running the London Marathon; he's also doing the Birmingham half marathon and has been doing a marathon or half marathon EVERY weekend at different locations across the country since the beginning of 2023, dressed as Spiderman! He is fundraising for UHB Charity to help support the Neonatal Unit at Heartlands Hospital. He says, "We spent 4 months in the care of the most amazing, wonderful angels who work there."

"Daniel's son Marshall was 600 grams when he was born. Doctors didn't think he would make it beyond 24 hours, but, thanks to the love, care, and support of some of the most amazing human beings I’ve ever had the privilege to meet, he did. Over the course of four months, they saved our son's life on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, Marshall got an NEC infection in his stomach and was unable to be moved for surgery. The infection took Marshall straight back to heaven within hours.

"We will never forget what the angels at Heartland's Neonatal Unit did for him, and that's why I want to give something back."To help Daniel hit his target, here is his Just Giving page: justgiving.com/fundraising/Danielrusby

Kate has a rare eye condition, meaning she is partially blind and will be running with the help of her partner. Kate is currently being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Centre for Rare Diseases and wanted to raise funds for the incredible work they do. Carl is taking part in the London Marathon this year in support of the Family Integrated Care Scheme on the Neonatal Units at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals. His son was born 10 weeks early in 2007 and was cared for at both sites for six weeks. He wanted to say thank you for the amazing work they do. Chris is taking part in the London Marathon after his mum passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and wanted to give back by taking on this mighty challenge for UHB Charity. Here is Chris' Just Giving page: justgiving.com/fundraising/chris-nash-jones

Rebecca is also taking on the London Marathon virtually. Her son Scott suffers from the rare liver condition, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, and is treated and supported by the fabulous team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. She told us she wants to give something back to the QE, as they have been an amazing support. Here is Becky's Just Giving page: justgiving.com/fundraising/rebecca-moore2023

Grace is taking on the London Marathon for UHB Charity to help raise funds for the Birmingham Transplant Centre. Grace's dad died suddenly from a heart attack. 16 years ago, he donated his kidney to his mum (Grace's nan) so she could enjoy her retirement and spend time with her grandchildren and family. Grace told us that UHB Charity was amazing and provided great support to her and her family. Her father's dream was to be able to run the London Marathon, so she is doing it in his honour as well as helping others. Any donations would spur all these fabulous runners towards the finish line, help them achieve their targets, and raise vital funds to help those in need.

Thank You.
