Yorkshire Building Society clients vote to support hospital patients

The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, a registered charity that supports local charities and worthy causes throughout the United Kingdom, has kindly donated £500 to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) Charity following a public vote.

The Birmingham New Street branch of The Yorkshire Building Society decided back in May to support three charities within the Birmingham community, all of which will receive a share of £1,000. The amount of money that each charity receives was decided by the public, with visitors to the branch given the opportunity to vote for their favourite charity. The winning charity would receive £500, the second £300, and the third £200.

QEHB Charity, one of the three charities chosen by the branch, is the official charity of QEHB- the largest single-site NHS hospital in the UK- and exists to improve the experience of patients and support staff to provide the best care possible.

The other worthy charities chosen for this vote were the Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust and the Wythall Animal Sanctuary.

On Monday 18 July, Branch Manager Heidi Haynes and Development Manager Gurpreet Chahal met with Sian Averill, QEHB Charity Fundraising Officer, to present her with the generous donation. The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Carl Rice, was also in attendance.

Sian said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Birmingham New Street branch of The Yorkshire Building Society for their generosity in choosing QEHB Charity as one of its three charities – and really pleased to have received the most votes form the public! This donation will help us to continue helping patients and staff at QEHB; thank you to everyone who voted for us.”
