Meetings

The Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer Patient Support Group (previously known as the Upper GI Support Group) was established with the help of the upper GI nurses at QEHB to provide a forum for patients to discuss any issues or problems they might be experiencing. The group also explores areas of direct interest, such as fitness, nutrition and complementary therapies – particularly those relating to the changes that take place in the digestive system after surgery.

Details of upcoming meetings

The group holds regular meetings, usually on the third Thursday of every second month, held at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, B15 2GW. Frequently, speakers will attend to address the group; they are usually from the Upper GI team at QEHB, are knowledgeable in their speciality and can talk about various aspects of the disease, research and treatments.

These meetings are also attended by one of the nursing team and the dietician who is attached to the Upper GI team. In addition we also organise social and fundraising events at various venues around Birmingham. All monies raised are donated to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity’s fund for oesophageal and gastric cancer.
