TB Dry Lab courses (Phacon bones)

Course outline:

This is an exciting course offering trainees the option of supplementing their operative training in Otology by drilling temporal bones in the West Midlands ENT Dry Lab using artificial bones produced by Phacon and/or Med-El.
Course content:
Candidates will spend 3-hours drilling, learning techniques involved in:
• Cortical mastoidectomy
• Mastoid exploration
• Canal wall up/down mastoid surgery
Passive middle ear implants will be available, supplied by Med-El, to gain experience in ossiculoplasty.

Faculty:
All courses are run by expert Consultant Otologists (Course organiser +/- visiting faculty), to enable ongoing individually tailored training and feedback throughout the courses.

Dry bones:
Please note, to attend this course, you will also need to purchase the related dry bone cassette, which will be provided on the day you attend, and then belong to you.  For trainees who have already purchased a dry bone cassette, but not exhausted the drilling thereof, the cassettes can continue to be used at subsequent courses without further purchase of cassettes.  Once a cassette has been ‘used up’, a new cassette will need to be purchased.  Please see the related purchasing option on the Charities Shop website.

Course fee:
• West Midlands trainees: £50
• Non West Midlands trainees: £75

Please note:
For inexperienced trainees we highly recommend booking onto the TB VR Lab courses for the first 5-10 sessions (please see related link on the Charities Shop website).  This will enable familiarisation with drilling techniques and TB anatomy more effectively and economically for trainees, as the VR simulators allow trainees to use as many bones as they wish at no extra cost during each course.
