Facilities

UHB Charity’s Liver Foundation UK funds ‘added extras’ for liver patients, helping to make their stay at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital more comfortable and less stressful for both themselves and their relatives. This can range from improving the physical environment to ‘brighten up’ non-clinical areas, to purchasing books and board games to aid cognitive recovery as well as provide much-needed entertainment.

Some patients unfortunately need to spend an extended period of time in hospital and often travel from across the country to receive treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s renowned liver unit. Separation from your family and support networks can be upsetting, especially at a time when you’re unwell.

What we are funding

Next, we want to refurbish the existing transplant assessment clinic, where prospective liver transplant patients have to stay and be monitored for a number of days to see if they are healthy enough to receive a transplant.

This can be both a worrying and dull period of time. We are currently funding new furnishings and iPads in the transplant assessment clinic in order to improve patient experience and comfort during this stressful time. By providing better facilities in more attractive surroundings we hope to reduce stress and help patients to feel more at home.
