Mental Health Nurse climbs Mount Snowdon for QEHB

Becky Hoskins started her weight loss campaign in June 2018 so her and her husband can be referred for fertility treatment, and now she is taking part in Sunrise Snowdon to raise money for QEHB Charity as part of her challenge.

So far, Becky has lost over six stone and has another two stone to go to reach her target. Now, she will be taking on Sunrise Snowdon for the hospital charity as part of her get fit campaign.

The walk up Mount Snowdon begins at midnight and everyone will arrive at the summit for 5am, just in time to watch the sun rise over the Welsh countryside!

Becky, a Mental Health Nurse at QEHB, said: “I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which I was only diagnosed with four and half years ago, just before I got married. It’s affects one in five women but can take a long time to be diagnosed; mine was missed for over 10 years.

“I can’t be referred for fertility treatment due to the high risks involved in pregnancy if you are overweight, so this spurred me on to lose weight and become more active.

“Since starting at the Trust two years ago, I have wanted to raise money for the Charity. I’ve seen first-hand the amazing work the Charity does and how it help transform the lives of so many patients, their families and the wider community.”

Becky’s job involves leading the Trust in developing and delivering a mental health strategy to ensure that patients with mental health needs receive the best possible support and personalised care.

Talking about climbing the mountain, Becky said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge! I’m also quite nervous as this is a big challenge for me! A colleague of mine, Lucy Sheridan, is also taking part in the challenge in memory of her Dad who passed away awaiting a stem cell transplant. We’ll be walking together and encouraging each other on!

“I’m really looking forward to arriving at the summit and experiencing the sunrise knowing I have not only achieved this personally, but also raised money for QEHB Charity.”

Training for the big Snowdon climb.

Becky has already raised an amazing amount of money but you can support her on this incredible journey by donating to her JustGiving page here: justgiving.com/becky-hoskins33.
