A fabulous night of fundraising has been organised in Oswestry to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust Young Person's Unit (YPU) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) complete with musical entertainment from Elvis impersonator Josh Whittall.

The event has been organised by Glenys Padfield who has lived in the Shropshire town for the past 35 years and was inspired to raise money for YPU following the treatment that a family member received on the unit. YPU is a specialist cancer unit that treats teenagers and young people aged 16 to 24. YPU is designed to ensure that teenagers and young adults are diagnosed efficiently, treated effectively, and have the support they need to make it through their treatment and rebuild their lives after cancer.

The fundraising event will take place on Saturday 10 March at Weston Pools Clubhouse and Glenys is confident that it will be an evening of fun that will make a difference, saying: "This should be a fantastic night, there will be music from the amazing Elvis impersonator Josh, a hot food buffet and a raffle.

"I have received amazing support from the local community, with many local businesses donating prizes for the raffle and helping me to organise the night by printing posters and raffle tickets for free. The raffle includes a signed Manchester United football, flowers, wine, and vouchers for local restaurants. I'm looking forward to raising money for this excellent cause that is close to my family's heart."

Sophie Carroll, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity said: "My thanks go to Glenys for organising what I'm sure will be a wonderful evening of entertainment and fundraising. The Charity works to go 'over and above' for young people with cancer by providing added extras that have helped YPU to become a home from home. There are plenty of DVDs and games to keep the young people entertained, whilst a music teacher and specialist teacher, funded by the Charity, help the young people to keep their lives and education on track whilst they are in hospital.

"None of this would be possible without the support of fundraisers such as Glenys. I hope that everyone has a fun time and that the event is a great success!"
