A special Christmas party brings joy to Solihull children

In the season of Christmas parties and festivities, a group of children from the Solihull area were treated to a very special party which helped them all to get into the Christmas spirit.

The Children’s Community Nursing Christmas Party was held for children with additional, complex and palliative health needs, who receive support in their own homes by the Children’s Community Nurses. The festive bash was held at Bishop Wilson School in Chelmsley Wood and saw over 45 children come along for an afternoon of Christmassy fun, specially catered to the children’s needs.

Children’s Nurse team leader, Rachel Yeates said: “This was the first time in the team’s 16 year history that we were able to arrange a party for the children that we support. Thanks to the help of Solihull Hospital Charity, we managed to create a sensory and activity-based party that would be suitable for the children.”

“The children that we support would not be able to enjoy most Christmas parties and would not be able to queue in shopping centres to visit Santa. It was really important to me and the team that we were able to put on a party for our amazing children who have a wide range of complex needs.”

“Every child was able to visit Santa in our special grotto and receive an age and ability-appropriate present from him. We had visits from Anna and Elsa from Frozen, a very festive Mickey Mouse and two ‘Pets in Hospital’ dogs were there to meet the children.

“The party was complete with Christmas music to dance to from D&J Entertainment, who deserve special thanks for being so amazing with the children.”

Samantha Howell, Fundraising Manager at Solihull Hospital Charity said: “On behalf of the Charity I would like to thank Rachel and the team for their hard work in organising such a special party. I know that they have received really positive feedback from parents and children alike who were grateful to be able to celebrate Christmas in a way which suited their needs.

“The Charity was delighted to be able to support this really important cause, helping to spread Christmas spirit to some very special young people and their families.”
