Baby Dylan’s family fundraise for Heartlands Neonatal Unit

After a planned home birth on 9 February 2020, Dylan Driver was rushed to hospital and spent four days on the Neonatal Unit at Heartlands Hospital.  Now, his parents are raising money to say thank you for the amazing care he received.

When he was born, Dylan had experienced oxygen starvation.  As a result, he was not breathing, and had experienced severe brain damage.  Having been transferred to the specialist Neonatal department at Heartlands Hospital, staff were unsure whether Dylan would survive as his EEG results showed no brain activity.

However, by the next morning, Dylan had proved everyone wrong.  His scans began to show brain activity, and after four days of intensive treatment he was stable enough to move to Worcester Royal Hospital, closer to his family.

Since then, he has continued to improve and is now happily living at home with his family.  Having been overwhelmed by the care and support they received, Dylan’s parents set up a GoFundMe page, hoping to give something back to the units on which he was looked after.  Speaking about their experience, Dylan’s mum said

“These people are absolute angels…Over the two weeks we were in hospital, they all made us feel so cared for, at home, and that they truly loved our son and were doing their very best for him.”

In just three days, they raised an incredible £1,000, with the total now standing at £1,600.  An amazing £800 of this was donated to Heartlands Hospital Neonatal Unit, where it will be used to fund our Family Integrated Care Service.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Manager at Heartlands Hospital Charity, said “Thank you so much to the Driver family for their incredible fundraising.  This money will make a huge difference to our families, helping us to support them in the best way possible at the beginning of a difficult journey.”
