“Benidorm or Bust” for Solihull Hospital Charity raises £3,270

Pat Dunne, Guy Dodd, Nick Tatlow and Andrew Tatlow are a group of four midlands friends who made the epic trip from Dover to Benidorm to fundraise for Solihull Hospital’s Haematology and Oncology Day Unit.

On 15 May 2019 the 1,400 mile trip began. In the space of four days the team set to travel from Dover to Orléans, Orléans to Toulouse, Toulouse to Tarragona and finally Tarragona to Benidorm.

Sadly, Pat’s Father, Martin Dunne aged 75 is currently receiving pancreatic cancer treatment at Solihull Hospital’s Haematology and Oncology Day Unit. Martin’s family are extremely grateful for the wonderful care that Martin receives, and wanted to say a special thank you to Ms Joyce Thompson, Consultant Medical Oncologist and her team. In total Pat and his friends smashed their original target of £1,250 and raised an outstanding £3,270!  Reflecting on his trip Pat said: “I have good friends who whole-heartedly contributed and rallied their own contacts to contribute. Without whom I wouldn’t have raised so much money. I am forever in their debt.”

Rachel Learmonth, Fundraising Manager for Solihull Hospital Charity said: “Thanks to the incredible support of generous fundraisers like Pat and his friends, Solihull Hospital Charity is able to provide vital equipment and outstanding facilities to our cancer patients here at Solihull Hospital. Our mission is to go ‘over and above’ to fund what the NHS cannot. This substantial donation will largely help a patients’ stay at hospital, making it that little bit easier, thank you!”
