Birmingham and West Midlands Ladies Football Club joins forces with hospital charity

Preparations for the new season are well underway for the players and coaches at Birmingham and West Midlands Ladies Football Club (BWMLFC), and the team have announced a new charity partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham Charity. The hospital charity supports patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital, and the Club hopes to raise awareness and money for patients across the West Midlands over the coming season.

The club, who play their home matches at the Castle Vale Stadium, has enjoyed fantastic success in recent years, completing the league and cup double in the 2014/15 season, and have since become an established team within the FA Women’s National League Midlands Division One.

Helen Carver, General Manager at BWMLFC, said: “On behalf of everyone at BWMLFC I am delighted to announce our new partnership with the hospital charity. Our players and coaches come from all over Birmingham and we all have personal connections with the hospitals. We wanted to choose a charity that supports people across the West Midlands, so the hospital charity was the perfect match!”

Ashlea Hargreaves works a physiotherapist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, and player for BWMLFC. Ashlea said: “It’s great that the club has picked the hospital charity as its partner for the coming season. Working at the hospital, I get to see the difference that the Charity makes to patients, providing extra equipment, facilities and research that makes the hospital experience better for patients and staff.”

The team’s first home game of the season is coming up on Sunday 26 August, and the team will be proudly wearing their hospital charity t-shirts whilst warming up at the Castle Vale Stadium. Helen Carver said: “We’re a proud community-based club, and I hope that the community will join us in getting behind the hospital charity, and supporting their important work across the four hospitals.”

Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, Sophie Carroll, said: “The Charity is delighted to welcome BWMLFC on board as a supporter for the coming season, it’s fantastic to have such an enthusiastic team of people fundraising for the Charity, and helping to raise awareness for the work that we do. We’re all looking forward to working with the team, and the money they raise will help to support patients across the West Midlands.”
