Cakes for Claire raises £2,500 for adrenal tumour research
Claire Khan, a cancer patient at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham died at the age of 18 from a rare form of the disease.
Over the years, Claire’s family have raised staggering amounts of money in support of adrenal tumour research at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.
On what would have been Claire’s 40th Birthday, in February the family decided that they wanted to hold another event in her honour. Claire’s young niece, Libby, who is 5 years old, said that she thought that Auntie Claire would have liked for people to bake cakes and so Cakes for Claire was born!
Various events took place, from Doncaster all the way to Cyprus, raising a total of £2,500 - that is an awful lot of cakes!
Justine Davy, Head of Fundraising said: “The amazing amount that Cakes for Claire has raised just goes to show that when family and friends get together to fundraise and to celebrate the life of someone so dear to them, they can make a significant difference to other patients by way of supporting the Charity. We are very thankful to the family for their continued support and we hope, and are sure, that they all enjoyed eating the lovely cakes on sale.”
