Car crash survivor marks anniversary of recovery

A car crash survivor is holding a fundraiser to thank staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for saving her life.

Shelley Faulkner, aged 28, plans to mark the first anniversary of the crash with an event at Stratford-Upon-Avon Picturehouse Cinema.

She explained: “I was in a road traffic accident when my car skidded on my journey to work. It was pretty horrific – my family were preparing for one of two things, paralysis or death.
“I am so lucky to have pulled through with little visible impact on my physical appearance but a changed outlook on life.”

Miraculously, Shelley made a full recovery after spending nine days in Critical Care at the QE. Now, in order to give something back, she’s studying Occupational Therapy at a University in Bristol, and is holding a ‘survival day’ fundraiser to thank QEHB and the Midlands Air Ambulance staff for saving her life.

She said: “I received the best possible care at the QE hospital. It’s full of amazing staff; doctors, nurses, cleaners and porters. They and the beautiful sunset reflecting off the windows helped my positive recovery.”

The free event will take place at Stratford-Upon-Avon Picturehouse cinema, Windsor street, Stratford-Upon-Avon from midday on 15th November. There will be a cake sale, silent auction, raffle, pub quiz and performances from acoustic musicians.
