The hospital charity's cancer raffle has been drawn and the lucky winners have started to collect their prizes. The top prize of £2,000 was won by Yvonne March who came along to Ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital alongside her husband Tony to collect her reward.

Yvonne has been a patient on Ward 19, the dedicated cancer care ward at Heartlands Hospital, for a number of years and purchased the raffle tickets when she found out about the draw whilst at the hospital. When she found out that she had won, Yvonne said: "I thought it was a wind-up at first but I'm so pleased and I'm looking forward to treating my son and my husband."

Yvonne received treatment on Ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital, and is now being treated at the new cancer centre at Solihull Hospital, which was partly funded thanks to donations to the hospital charity. Speaking of the new centre, Yvonne said: "It's lovely, very clean with a nice big reception and a nice scenic view. All the staff on both Ward 19 and the new centre are lovely and everyone is very friendly, especially my surgeon Mr Bala and Dr Tsalic."

The lucky winner plans to celebrate alongside her husband Tony, who said: "Yvonne is well loved by everyone who knows her. We're heading to Weston this weekend so will enjoy a meal out in a nice restaurant to celebrate."

Heartlands Hospital Charity Fundraising Assistant Sabrina Hussaine said: "Huge congratulations go to Yvonne and Tony for their win, on behalf of the Charity I would like to thank everyone who purchased a raffle ticket, helping the Charity to provide 'added extras' for cancer patients across the West Midlands."
