Charity supporters climb Snowdon in challenging weather

Fearless fundraisers have chosen to ‘do summit rewarding’ for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital charities this year and climbed Mount Snowdon.

Hospital staff and Charity staff, patients, friends and families joined together to climb the highest mountain in England and Wales – Mount Snowdon.

With over 3,500 feet to climb, the group managed to climb through the torrential rain and mist and make it to the top of the mountain.

Gurpreet Shinji, one of the climbers, said: “It has been one of the most physically challenging things I have ever done but it was such an amazing experience! I met some amazing people on the trek and couldn’t have asked for a better team!”

Raising almost £10,000 between all of them, they really have done something rewarding and the money raised will go to each department the climbers chose to raise money for. The money donated will go towards making sure that all four hospitals can continue treating patients to the best of their ability with ‘added extras’ funded by the Charity.

For some of the climbers, it was about crossing something off their bucket list whilst raising money for the hospital charity, but for others it was a thank you to the hospitals and the staff for helping them or someone they know through tough times.

Sophie Carroll, Fundraising Officer for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said: “It was a very challenging walk up the mountain but I am so pleased that everyone enjoyed themselves and managed to raise money for the departments of their choice!

“A huge thanks goes to everyone who participated, Aldi for supplying snacks and drinks for all the climbers and the guides from Large Outdoors who helped us through the trek! All of the money raised will go towards ‘added extras’ for the patients, staff and families at all four hospitals.”

A big thank you goes to Aldi in Bordesley Green who very kindly supplied the group of climbers with snacks and drinks to keep them going through the gruelling climb.

If you’re inspired to ‘do summit rewarding’ for the Charity, you can still take part in many other events and even take part in the Sunrise Snowdon event which is happening next year! To find out more information about Sunrise Snowdon, please click here.
