Cinderella has a ball for young cancer patients at the QE

A group of community amateur actors in Olton came together in March of this year in order to raise thousands of pounds for the Young Persons Unit at the QE.

The group decided to undertake their own version of Cinderella; Katie Newbon, resident of Olton, wrote and organised ‘A sort of Cinderella, her sisters and her fella’. The costume coordinator was Linda Stewart, who has been raising money with other members of her family for YPU over the past few months. Performances were held on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 March at Our Lady of Compassion School, Olton.

The performances were incredibly popular, with over £3,000 being raised for the Young Persons Unit at the QE and the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association. Funds raised were split between the two charities, with QEHB Charity receiving an incredible £1,522.39 for YPU.

Sian Averill, Fundraising Officer at QEHB Charity, said: “This pantomime was a fantastic spectacle, and therefore it is no surprise that the group of amateur dramatists raised such an incredible about of money for these two worthy charities! On behalf of QEHB Charity, I want to thank Katie and all involved with ‘A sort of Cinderella, her sisters and her fella’ for their hard work and dedication.”
