Couple celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary whilst fundraising for Good Hope Hospital

Ron and Christine Sugden recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and spent their celebrations fundraising for the Critical Care Unit at Good Hope Hospital.

Ron was taken seriously ill in 2012 after having a tiny splinter in his hand. After being rushed to Good Hope Hospital, Ron was quickly diagnosed with sepsis.

For their 50th wedding anniversary, the couple decided to host a celebration with over 90 guests including their friends and family.

After surgery he was cared for by the Critical Care Unit and said: “I feel very fortunate to have survived. I owe my life to the care and dedication of Good Hope Hospital and in particular the Critical Care Unit. As we explained to our guests, without the work of the Sepsis Trust, Good Hope A&E and the Critical Care Unit, we would not have been celebrating our anniversary.”

All the guests donated to the charities chosen and thanks to their generosity, they raised £1100 which has been split between Good Hope Hospital Charity and UK Sepsis Trust.

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager for Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “A huge thank you to Ron and Christine for choosing to share their special celebration with Good Hope Hospital Charity. The money raised will go towards ‘added extras’ for patients, families and staff in A&E and Critical Care at the hospital.”
