Dad runs for hospital that saved his life

Jamie O’Brien was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2016 and had it removed the following year and has now decided to run the SimplyHealth Great Birmingham Run for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham who saved his life.

Jamie had his tumour removed in early 2017 just before his son, Jaiden, was born. Since then, Jamie has received amazing after care from the hospital and he said: “This hospital and its fantastic staff saved my life in February 2017.

“I had a brain tumour successfully removed and owe so much to the people who cared for me during my time at the hospital.”

Jamie’s training has been going well and he is looking forward to completing the half marathon on Sunday, and his colleagues at Transmec UK helped him exceed his fundraising target of £500 and he has now raised £1,097!

Rachel Learmonth, Senior Fundraiser for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, said: “Good luck goes to Jamie for the half marathon where he has already raised a huge amount of money for the hospital that saved his life.

“All of the money raised will go towards ‘added extras’ that are over and above what the NHS can provide for patients who get treated at the hospital.”

Jamie’s JustGiving page is still open so if you would like to donate to help Jamie raise even more money, please visit his page here
