Detective Sergeant Steve Turner raises £1051 for Fisher House

Detective Sergeant Steve Turner, a former member of the Royal Navy who served from 1988 to 1995, has raised an incredible £1051 for Fisher House by running the 2019 Cardiff Half Marathon! Steve was also joined by his colleague Detective Sergeant Beth Colley, also an ex-service member, and her partner Tom Davies.

During Steve’s time in the forces he served with Paul and Jill Daniel, whose eldest son Ciaran then also went on to become a member of the Royal Navy. Ciaran unfortunately became ill whilst serving on HMS Dragon in the Persian Gulf over Christmas in 2018 and was taken for treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Ciaran and his parents, Paul and Jill, were all able to stay at Fisher House during this difficult time.

Steve said: “I visited Ciaran and his family a number of times whilst he was at Fisher House and was amazed at the help and support it provided for the people I regard as family. Not only did I witness the support they received but also that given to other service personnel and their families staying there.”

After seeing the enormous benefits Fisher House provides, Steve kindly decided to fundraise for UHB Charity. Steve said: “I would just like to thank each and every member of the Fisher House team for all the help, support and warmth you provided for Danny, Jill, Ciaran and Connor throughout 2019 and I hope this money can help you continue to get those serving their country, along with their families and friends, through the toughest of times.”

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager, said: "A huge thank you to Steve, Beth and Tom for all your hard work and support! Thanks to you and your supporters, we will be able to provide an invaluable 40 nights of accommodation for a family in need."
