Family donate in memory of Judy

Judy Baller battled with lung cancer for over six years before passing away in June of this year. Now, her husband and son have donated an incredible amount of money to the Oncology Department at Good Hope Hospital.

Judy’s husband, Alec, decided to make the donation to the department who helped him spend a little extra time with her before she passed away.

Talking about the treatment that Judy received, Alec said: “Without the treatment that the doctors at Good Hope gave Judy, she wouldn’t have had so much extra time to spend doing the things that she wanted.

“The staff here became more like a family than anything else, they were always lovely to us and made sure that she was okay when she came in. Were it not for the fantastic care and treatment from Good Hope Oncology, Judy would not have been able to do the things we managed to do together over the last few years.”

Alec and his son, Richard, donated an incredible £1,300 to the Oncology Department, with the help of family and friends.

Richard said: “Mum was very popular here and in the community, people loved her and wanted to donate when we said we were fundraising.”

The money raised in memory of Judy will go to the Oncology Department which will help us go 'over and above' for patients. Last year, the hospital charity was able to refurbish one of the treatment rooms in the department and add ten new chemotherapy chairs with the help of Friends of Good Hope Hospital which has benefitted patients so much and has meant people can receive their treatment earlier.

Elle Huguet, Fundraising Assistant at Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: “Thank you so much to Alec and Richard for their incredible donation of £1,300 in memory of Judy for the Oncology Department.

“The money raised will help the hospital charity fund added extras for the unit that the NHS cannot fund.”
